Montecristo Platinum Cigars
Montecristo Platinum Series cigars set a new standard for luxury, handmade cigars. Crafted with selected Mexican Cubano cigar wrapper, these exquisite cigars offer a rich, sensual smoking experience to the connoisseur. The original painting on the Montecristo Platinum Series cigars box was created by Michel Delacriox, the acclaimed French master of the naif tradition, and depicts Havana's famous harbor in an earlier time. The Montecristo Platinum cigars is truly a reward for all of the senses.
The Montecristo Platinum blend is among the most intriguing of those made at the immense Tabacalera de Garcia factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The wrapper is an unusual Habana2000 seed grown in the San Andres Valley of Mexico. The Nicaraguan binder is wrapped around a filler blend of Dominican, Peruvian and Nicaraguan leaves. In 2005 the Montecristo Platinum Mini Belicoso Tube was rated 92 by Cigar Aficionado and designated one of the "Best Cigars of the Year". It's a delicious, a smooth, earthy, 5 x 52 cigar that comes wrapped in a sleeve of cedar and packed in a tube emblazoned with the artwork of Michel Delacroix. A superbly crafted cigar.

Montecristo White Cigars

Montecristo Series C cigars

Cuban Montecristo Cigars

Montecristo cigars have easily been among the most popular Havana cigars for over two decades, the Montecristo Cuban cigar has a distinct flavour which has delighted the world's cigar smokers since it was first introduced in 1935 by the H. Upmann cigar factory. Today around forty percent of Habanos Cuban cigar exports bear Montecristo's famous mark.
When the Montecristo cigar line was founded in 1935 by Alonzo Menendez and Pepe Garcia, they were restricted to five cigar sizes, identified by numbers instead of names, as they had also just purchased the H. Upmann brand from the British firm, J. Frankau, and intended to concentrate on extending the latter brand's volume.
Originally known as H. Upmann Montecristo Selection, its name was changed to the simpler, Montecristo, by another British firm, John Hunter, who were appointed UK agents.
British film director Alfred Hitchcock was one of the Montecristo cigar brand's notable early devotees, especially during World War II when, based in Hollywood, he sent supplies to grateful friends in England - the war interrupted the import of Havana cigars to Britain so the Montecristo cigars brand development was initially concentrated in the USA.
In the late fifties, shortly after Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba, the Menedez and Garcia families moved to the Canary Islands, but the continuity in quality and unique blending of this famous brand was assured by Jose Manuel Gonzales, known as 'Masinguila', who is widely considered to be the finest cigar maker in Cuba's history.
In the early 1970s, the Montecristo A cigar and the Laguito (Cohiba) Nos. 1, 2 and 3 sizes were added to the Montecristo cigar range. A firm favourite with famous smokers such as Lord Lew Grade and Tom Jones, many consider the Montecristo No.1 the finest Havana cigar in the world. |
